Problem Statement
As lifestyles evolve, the incidence of life-threatening diseases, including cancer, has risen. Breast cancer is a significant concern for women, with statistics from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) underscoring its severity. In 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer globally, and 670,000 died. Every 14 seconds, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. Early detection is crucial, and iBreastExam™ (iBE) has developed a patented sensor technology to aid in this effort. But, to maximize the effectiveness of this technology, a platform was needed to efficiently manage data, provide easy access for doctors and nurses, ensure seamless connectivity between the iBE sensor and android device, and facilitate clinical data analysis. Ultimately, they aimed to create a comprehensive go-to-market integrated IoT solution.
Solution:
Given the numerous stakeholders and the vast amount of data generated by this breast cancer technology, seamless and easy accessibility was crucial. Therefore, we designed a system to maintain comprehensive patient profiles, integrating scan data and medical history into a centralized patient data system. Hospitals, NGOs, and clinics can utilize a web dashboard with various access controls to ensure secure and efficient data management. The platform tracks and maintains device information, including associated scans, and supports both prepaid and postpaid plans through recharge and payment gateway integration. It also facilitates the scanning and synchronization of data, converting binary information into graphs and readable formats for easy interpretation along with an alert mechanism after breast cancer detection. This is done with the help of an iBE sensor which is connected to an Android device. All the data from the scan is shown on the connected Android device. Also, due to the integration of PII and iBE, results and data are securely sent to EHR. Additionally, a ticketing system is in place to track and address solution and scanner failure points, ensuring consistent and reliable performance.
Technology Used:
To create this solution, we used several advanced technologies. PHP YII 2.0 provided a strong backend framework, while Angular.js enabled a dynamic user interface. MySQL ensured secure data storage and retrieval. Our Android app integrated seamlessly with the web platform. Zendesk managed our ticketing system, and AWS offered scalable cloud services. REST APIs facilitated efficient data exchange between system components. This technology suite allowed us to build a comprehensive, user-friendly solution for managing breast cancer data.
Impact:
With the current solution by iauro, iBreastExam™ offers a unique platform for centralized patient data management. This US FDA approved innovative platform efficiently and seamlessly organizes and maintains critical and analytical data, addressing the needs of doctors and clinics. By leveraging advanced technology, iBreastExam™ is revolutionizing the medical field through the early detection of breast cancer, delivering high-quality medical practices at lower costs.
The impact of iBreastExam™ is significant:
- Over 3.5 million underserved patients have been scanned in 12 countries.
- More than 200+ early-stage breast cancer cases have been detected.
- Over 30,000 devices have been distributed to medical practitioners.
This showcases iBreastExam™ as a true example of impact innovation at scale.
